Chapter History

In 1976, 40 members of the "Queens of Gold" Interest Group organized to establish an Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. Chapter on the campus of Glassboro State College. On May 21, 1977, the North Atlantic Regional Director Mildred Stuart and the Theta Pi Omega President Asora Carpenter, chartered the Lambda Rho Chapter. Lambda Rho was founded at Rowan University on May 21, 1977 by the "Tantalizing Twelve". Lambda Rho became the second African American Sorority established on Rowan University's campus. For the past thirty-seven years, Lambda Rho Chapter has been a driving force on the campus of the Rowan University through its programs of service to the college community and beyond.
